I heard a famous songwriter say, "I just write sad cowboy songs" and I thought, that's what I do.

I sing my sad cowboy songs to myself
and make myself cry
I bring those old tunes down from the shelf
and ask myself why?
there’s nobody there to hear me at night
while I howl at the moon
so I ‘ll just sing my tune
and make mysel cry

I dreamed that some day soon
I’d sing to a crowd
They’d yell and sing my songs
with me aloud
I realized now these things
were all in my head
I’m alone once again

I write these sad cowboy songs
and strum my guitar
hoping that someone would hear
from near or from far
